How do I check for Windows 10 Updates (and install them if they're available)?

It's good to ensure that you're on the latest version of Windows 10, so that you can benefit from the latest security updates and features.

If you want to check and install the latest Windows 10 update, select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update , and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.

Once your computer has finished checking for updates, if any are available you will be able to install them.

It's best to do the update at the end of the day, or at a time when you can be prepared to not have access to your computer for an hour or more whilst the upgrade takes place.

On a slow internet connection it is not unusual to take an hour or so for the update to download - you can continue to work whilst it is downloading.

To apply the update once you reboot can also take up to an hour.
